Recap: National Volunteer Week on /A\ Morning

We have to extend our thanks to /A\ Channel for highlighting our local community organizations’ great volunteer opportunities. To help us celebrate National Volunteer Week (April 10-16) the /A\ Channel had Volunteer Ottawa and four of our member organizations (Bytown Brigantine, Carlingview Manor, the Otesha Project and the Canadian Cancer Society Ottawa Unit) on the show each morning.

Then hosts volunteered around the city to see what hundreds of thousands of Ottawan’s do each day. Did you know that Ottawa has one of the highest rates of volunteer involvement across our country? You can be proud to live in this wonderful city!

Let’s take a look back at the week:

Monday: Volunteer Ottawa

Volunteer Ottawa links people with community organizations. Our interactive website has thousands of volunteer opportunities from organizations who need volunteer energy to deliver their critical community services.

Tuesday: Bytown Brigantine

Bytown Brigantine Inc. is a non-profit charitable organization, dedicated to building character through the adventure of tall ship sail training. Bytown Brigantine can become a year-round passion. In addition to our popular summer youth programs, we offer “weekend-away” training sessions throughout the winter as well as lots of opportunities to volunteer as crew for special events. There are even opportunities to sail in the exciting waters of the Caribbean.

Wednesday: Carlingview Manor

Carlingview Manor is a 303 bed long term care home to individuals with a variety of disabilities and abilities. Due to the size of their facility they have an extensive amount of volunteer opportunities for all interests, ages, nationalities, and the person who has the gift of unhurried time.

Thursday: The Otesha Project

The Otesha Project is a youth run charitable organization that uses theatre to mobilize young people to make local and global changes through their everyday consumer choices. Their main program consists of Performing and Cycling Tours, ranging from 2 months to 10 days, all across Canada.

Friday: Canadian Cancer Society Ottawa Unit

The Canadian Cancer Society is a national, community-based organization of volunteers, whose mission is the eradication of cancer and the enhancement of the quality of life of people living with cancer.

If you want to volunteer, we have something for everyone!
