The end of summer is in sight, but there are still opportunities for volunteers in gardens, camps and festivals. Call Volunteer Ottawa, at 613-736-5270 or visit www.volunteerottawa.ca to find your place in the sun.
Let it shine:
One of Ottawa’s last festivals of the summer begins Aug. 20, for one day only. But there’s lots of activities for everyone beforehand. And they need volunteers for Lumiere, to set up, meet and greet, participate in lantern-making workshops and generally make things run smoothly. Come by yourself or with family and friends. Call Wendy Lee at 613-745-2742.
Volunteering at a hospice is a satisfying experience for both the volunteer and the client. Friends of Hospice Ottawa are presenting an information night from 7 to 8 p.m. Aug. 18 to answer questions about what you can do and how you can be of the greatest assistance. Call Diane Jodouin at 613-591-6002 ext 25.
Why not use your extra time to make a change in the life of a child living in poverty? Christie Lake Kids needs volunteers in order to offer free programming to kids who really need it. We are recruiting for September 2011 in the following programs; skating, hockey, swimming, pottery, cooking, yoga, art and tutoring. Please contact Rhonda Farago at Christie Lake Kids office 613-742-6922 x224 and send in your résumé to firstname.lastname@example.org
Food, glorious food:
The Canadian Organic Growers Ottawa Chapter is looking for someone to coordinate the food activities for Organic Week Oct. 15 to 22, with the backing of other volunteers who will write promotional material, and liaise with community groups and sponsors. And if it’s more convenient for you, you can do it all from home. Send a letter to email@example.com with your resume and times available. Or call the Organic Week Co-ordinator at 613-261-0741.
Family Services of Ottawa’s Ottawa High Conflict Forum has worked for three years with service providers sharing the issues involving their interaction with families dealing with separation and divorce. Now they need to build a team of bilingual and graphic designers to create, maintain and update their website. Hours are flexible, depending on the volunteers’ schedule and the agency’s needs. This is a suitable opportunity for volunteers with a disability. Call Nasim Abdillhi at 613-725-3601.
