Volunteer Ottawa’s ‘Y Volunteer’ Contest Entry of the Week – Alishia Hui

Some great entries are rolling into the Y Volunteer contest. We had a chance to chat with last week’s “entry of the week” winner Alishia Hui. Click on her poster design below to see a larger version.

VO: Alishia, tell us a little bit about yourself Entry of the Week

Alishia: I am 16, and a student at Earl of March high school.

VO: Alishia, you entered a poster called “Helping Others” – tell us a little bit about your piece.

Alishia: The people were placed in a circle so that it “forms the world”. People can help all over the world to make the world a better place – everyone can contribute!

VO: Great. What volunteer activities do you participate in?

Alishia: I like helping out with local organizations who need media or graphic help. I also want to see more organizations like Habitat for Humanity or TWLOHA (To Write Love on Her Arms) come to Ottawa so I’d be able to volunteer with that more – they’re great causes and TWLOHA is very relevant in the teenage community.

VO: Why do you volunteer?

Alishia: I volunteer to help in areas that I have more skills in to help those who don’t. I also enjoy helping others and seeing the smile on their face when its’ all done.

VO: Thanks for your time Alishia and keep up the good work!

What is the ‘Y Volunteer’ Contest?

The Y Volunteer contest is a great opportunity for youth to promote volunteerism to youth. We don’t want to miss out on any great entries so we have extended the deadline. You now have until midnight Monday, January 2nd, 2012 to enter.

  1. I enjoy you because of every one of your effort on this blog. My daughter takes pleasure in participating in internet research and it is obvious why. Almost all know all about the dynamic method you provide vital things by means of this web blog and therefore attract participation from some others on the content then our favorite daughter is in fact being taught a great deal. Have fun with the rest of the new year. You are conducting a fantastic job.
