February Feature Member Of The Month! Part 1

February is Black History Month.

Every year, Canadians are invited to participate in Black History Month festivities and events that honour the legacy of black Canadians, past and present.

Let’s take the time to recognize some Volunteer Ottawa member organizations that work here in Ottawa to provide services to black people around the world:

“CACHA missions have been the best experiences of my life, thanks for being amazing!”

What do volunteers mean to your organization?

CACHA lives and breathes by our volunteers – we would not be able to function without them. CACHA was built by volunteers and they continue to be the lifeblood of everything we do.

What types of volunteer opportunities do you offer?

10 times a year, CACHA sends 15-25 volunteers on medical missions to Tanzania, Uganda, Gabon and Bénin. Whether they are medical professionals or people with no medical background whatsoever, everyone has an important role to play. In a 2 week span, the mission participants will often treat upwards of 3000 patients, many of whom have never seen a doctor before.

We also host volunteers in our office in Ottawa who help us out with everything from data entry to finance to event planning to organizing all of the medical supplies we send along on the missions.

“Grateful for the experience! Wonderful to give of oneself in the care of those who lack very basic health resources.”
