MS Walk 2011The mission of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada is: To be a leader in finding a cure for multiple sclerosis and enabling people affected by MS to enhance their quality of life. Their programs provide hope for the future through the support of MS research into the cause, treatment and cure of the disease and hope for today. They have been pillars in the Ottawa community since 1950.

We chatted with the MS Society – Ottawa Chapter and asked them a few questions:

What’s the best part about volunteering/working with your org?

The best part of volunteering with the MS Society is we greatly value the contribution that volunteers make to the success of the organization as well as the positive impact on the lives of persons living with MS. Whether someone is volunteering as a friendly visitor or at a special event, the contribution made by all our volunteers is very impactful.

What kinds of upcoming or ongoing projects/events do you have?

The MS Walk will take place on April 29, 2012. The MS Society is a Partner Charity this year in the Tamarack Homes Ottawa Race Weekend May 26-27. We also have the 22nd annual MS Bike Tour August 11-12 and the MS Kilts Fore a Cure Golf Tournament August 27th.

Why are volunteers so important in your organization?

Volunteers are the backbone of this organization. Their contributions are what makes our organization a “society.”  Volunteers are involved at every level of the decision-making processes, planning and execution of events and services.

What’s the one thing you want people to know about you?

That although we are determined to see a future free of MS by finding the cause and cure for MS, we are committed to helping those today enhance their quality of life through programs and services.

  1. The initiative taken by the Multiple Sclerosis Society to support people living with this condition is really admirable. This is a great step that will indeed build the momentum for finding a cure for Multiple Sclerosis. If there were more groups like the MS society, people suffering with chronic illnesses would be living much better lives.
