Volunteer Roundup: Ottawa’s Latest Volunteer Opportunities

One step at a time: In 2012, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, with your support, is aiming to raise $7.9 million through the TELUS Walk to Cure Diabetes. In Ottawa, the TELUS Walk is on June 10th at Queen Juliana Park across from Dow’s Lake. We are looking for day of event volunteers to help on Saturday, June 9th for set-up and Sunday June 10th for various positions. Contact Robyn Ketner at 613-244-4818, ext. 223, or at rketner@jdrf.ca.

Help the homebound: Jewish Family Services Ottawa offers a wide variety of volunteer-driven programs and services. They are seeking friendly visitors to isolated seniors, as well as a program assistant to help with program set-up, room set-up, food preparation and greeting. Police checks are required. Hockey season never really ends: The 2nd annual Ottawa Power Play for Easter Seals kids, a 4 on 4 ball hockey tournament, will be held on Thursday, June 7. Teams will face off against each other on Sparks Street to win some great prizes and raise money for kids with physical disabilities. Calling All Wii Players

Calling on Wii Players: The Colonel By Retirement Residence is looking for a volunteer to play Wii with our residents on a Sunday afternoon, and for someone to teach its residents how to use a computer or an Ipad. A day at the beach: H.O.P.E. Volleyball SummerFest is helping send kids to CAMP BANTING! This year, they need volunteers for beer garden gate admission sales, bicycle compound monitoring and beach maintenance at the July 14 tournament. Helping from the Board table: Total Communications Environment, a non-profit charitable organization providing residential, respite, day services and outreach to long term care homes for adults with multiple disabilities and special communication needs, is seeking new members for its Board of Directors. They seek volunteers to provide necessary expertise, energy, time and advice to assist in the areas of governance: finance, legal, planning, advocacy, labour relations, and fundraising.
