Volunteer Roundup: Ottawa’s Latest Volunteer Opportunities

Street Performers Needed: Come share your skills and talents with us during our end of summer Corn Roast and BBQ. Blair Court Community House is a small non-profit organization serving a diverse, family population. Each year they hold a BBQ and Corn roast for the community to end off our summer programs and activities. On Thursday August 16 from 530-7pm we are looking for Street Performers to help entertain those in attendance. They’d love to hear from you if you can juggle, walk on stilts, preform as a clown or other characters, face paint or hula hoop. Other performers will be considered. Choose Health! Healthpartners needs volunteers to build awareness of their programs and member organizations. As part of the Health Check program, volunteers staff the Health Check display booth, thank government employees for their support, provide information and promote healthy living. Come Build the World: The Rideau Canal Festival is looking for artists to build the world for its flotilla! The Rideau Canal Flotilla takes place each year on Colonel By Day weekend (Sunday, Aug 5th), and this year they are celebrating the 5th anniversary of the Canal’s designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. They need volunteers to build magnificent, large-scale artwork representing other World Heritage site to decorate the boats in the flotilla. Will you construct the pyramids? Build the Great Wall of China? Bring the Parthenon to Ottawa? How about Haida Gwai’i or Head-Smashed-in-Buffalo Jump?

Rideau Canal Festival

A Stitch In Time: The Salvation Army Ottawa Grace Manor is a 128 bed Long-Term Care home owned and operated by the Salvation Army in Ottawa’s central west end. They’re looking for a seamstress who could provide residents with a little help with their mending. If you’re handy with a needle and thread, like to work from home and could come in 2-3 times a month to pick up/drop off mending, they would love to hear from you. Wheels and Meals: The Western Ottawa Community Resource Centre offers confidential services and programs to benefit individuals of all ages in the Goulbourn, Kanata and West Carleton areas. Drivers are needed to provide transportation to seniors and adults with disabilities to medical appointments, shopping and various social activities and programs. Also needed are people to pick up and deliver hot meals to seniors and people with disabilities who live in West Carleton or Goulbourn or Kanata. You’ll work in conjunction with Community Support staff. The volunteers are eligible for an expense reimbursement. An interview, reference check and Police Records Check are required.
