September is also Big Brothers Big Sisters Month!
Big Brothers Big Sisters Ottawa celebrated 40 years of delivering mentoring program in 2010. Our programs have grown from the traditional Big and Little matches to include programs offered in schools and group mentoring programs centered on healthy living. We are proud of our achievements and continue to strive to be on the leading edge of the Big Brothers Big Sisters movement in Canada.
On September 12th, you may have been surprised to see a few younger councillors around City Hall, and that’s because it’s “Take a Little to Council” event, which matches Littles with city Councillors for the day. They got the opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at a Council Meeting, get a tour of City Hall, and even cooler get to hang out with a Councillor. Who knows, maybe they’ll be running the city in 10 or 15 years!
Looking to do something active AND help Big Brothers Big Sisters Ottawa? On September 29th from 10 am – 6 pm get out to Coyote Rock Climbing Gym for the Final Climb4Kids event! There will be fun for the whole family! You can register for the bouldering competition at Coyote Rock Gym, or just climb the walls for fun, enjoy the BBQ, participate in some of the other activities and best of all, support Ottawa kids! We’ll have prizes to be won and lots of food to be eaten. Come out and meet your Ottawa community!
Now that school is back in, there’s a big need for volunteers for their InSchool Big! program, the Go Girls Mentors, and the Game on Group Mentoring. Want to volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters Ottawa? Here are some opportunities:
