Thanks for giving! The Thanks for Giving Food Drive 2012 takes place on October 5-6. Shifts: 10:00 am to 1:00 pm or 1:00pm to 4:00pm In area grocery stores across Ottawa. If you have 3 hours to help fight hunger in your community, the Ottawa Food Bank welcomes you to volunteer during this food drive. Volunteers distribute food drive donation bags to shoppers in pre-selected locations across the city. Shoppers are encouraged to purchase food items and drop them off as they exit the store. A fantastic family or student volunteering opportunity! The City of Ottawa Special Needs Services has 4 positions: Friends for Fun, Yoga Partner, Swimming Volunteer, and Sport Volunteer that is right for you, yes you. These therapeutic Recreation Programs offered in various community centres give children, youth and adults with special needs the opportunity to participate in year-round recreation and social activities. Fun and enlightening event! The 3rd Annual Free Thinking Film Festival 2012 will be running between November 1- 4 2012. The Festival features films and speakers on freedom, liberty and democracy! There are opportunities for volunteers to help sell tickets, sell merchandise (books and DVDs), sell food and drink, take tickets, usher patrons, and provide assistance for general clean-up, set-up and coordination. Calling all aspiring projectionists and movie buffs – The Ottawa Family Cinema, a Non-profit movie theatre run by volunteers, is seeking persons interested in being Ushers, Snack Bar Volunteers, and Projection Assistants. Volunteers are needed to greet and seat the audience, help with set-up and take-down of posters, signs and small tables, and help in the snack bar. Family Cinema is also looking for volunteers interested in learning some great technical skills as the projectionist is in need of an assistant. This position may require some heavy lifting of movie reels. Candlelighters is a not for profit organization whose mission is to enrich the lives of children, and their families, coping with childhood cancer and to raise awareness and understanding of the impact of childhood cancer on the children and their families. Something for everyone Warm, patient and empathetic volunteers are needed for Friendly Visiting (in person or by phone) and The Good Companions’ supportive Adult Day Program for the frail elderly. We are also looking for a computer savvy volunteer to assist our Fundraising and Marketing Coordinator in researching potential funding sources. If you’re crafty, why not consider teaching a sewing or scrapbooking course? A ballroom dance instructor is also needed!
