Home Away From Home: Ronald McDonald House has two Family Rooms at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario as an extension of the Ronald McDonald House program providing families with care, comfort, respite and privacy—an oasis during a difficult time. Volunteers will greet families, making them feel welcome in a home-like atmosphere and providing emotional support. Duties also include light housekeeping, making snacks and offering beverages. Help When Needed: FAMSAC Emergency Food Aid Program–The Family Service Association of (six) Churches operates a food bank serving many west-end neighbourhoods since 1969. With no government funding, FAMSAC runs entirely with the efforts of about 80 volunteers who offer their free time during weekday hours, Monday through Thursday, or Tuesday evenings. Needed are volunteer drivers and telephone monitors to receive calls (training provided). Vacancies also exist on the Board of Directors, including the position of Volunteer Coordinator—the ‘go-to’ person when volunteers are absent because of illness, vacations etc. Contact email@example.com or call 613-820-5428 (leave message).
Light up the show! The Kanata Food Cupboard is a non-profit agency that collects food and provides assistance to people in need of emergency food services living in the Kanata wards (North and South) of Ottawa. They are looking for a volunteer who owns a generator (preferably, a generator that is 1200 watts and quiet) to power the Christmas lights for their annual Kanata Santa Claus Parade taking place on November 17, 2012. Help your community! The Ottawa Hospital is looking to fill three different volunteer positions. First, an information desk volunteer will greet patients, visitors, and the public and direct them to other clinics and areas within the hospital. The second position is to fill the gift, book, and flower shop with volunteers to assist the public in a friendly manner; also required to operate the cash register. The last position is for the lottery kiosk; you would be required to provide a warm welcome to all and operate the cash register at the lottery kiosk desk. Police check required for all positions. The fabric of our community: EcoEquitable offers unparalleled, yet affordable, sewing and alterations service contracts for both small and large businesses. They are looking to fill many different volunteer positions: fabric boutique sales assistant, seamstress teaching assistant, and web/graphic designer. Also needed are Board members–are you professional, highly creative and able to dedicate 2-3 hours per week? A background in business, cut and sew manufacturing or marketing would be welcome.
