On Saturday November 17th, over 250 people attended Timeraiser at the National Gallery of Canada. The beautiful atrium at the Gallery was a perfect setting for the 12th and final Timeraiser of 2012. The success of the Ottawa Timeraiser is owing in no small part to our incredible sponsors. At the national level, TD, RBC, and Suncor and in Ottawa, CIBC, Enbridge, Minto, and the Ontario Bar Association – specifically Borden Ladner Gervais, Caza Saikaley, Hamilton Appotive, Kelly Santini, Mann & Partners, Nelligan O’Brien, Payne and Norton Rose.
At the community level, our partners at Cube Gallery, Hub Ottawa, United Way and Volunteer Ottawa helped us get the word out far and wide to artists and agencies across the region. The Orange Art Gallery and Les Suites Hotel were also generous in-kind sponsors of the event.
At the Timeraiser we aim to be holistic in our approach to community building. We do this via the investment in artists and in the volunteer matching parts of the program. We are making an impact in one additional way – by spending our program dollars with social enterprise organizations and businesses. In Ottawa we spent $5,000 with social enterprise organizations and participated in “Support Local” month by purchasing artist designed buttons for Volunteers to wear and take home.
Of course our Support Local initiative is embodied in our support for Ottawa artists – this year we invested $15,000 in the careers of local and emerging artists. Planning is already underway for the 6th Ottawa Timeraiser, and our thoughts have turned to supporting the volunteers who are beginning their year-long volunteer pledge.
SUCCESS BY THE NUMBERS:
- 20 of 30 pieces went for maximum bid
- 2630 hours raised from bids on artwork
- 800 hours raised from individuals willing to pledge time to volunteerism whether they won art or not
- $15,000 invested in artists careers
- 27 non-profit professionals mingled with 250 potential new volunteers
