Tax Time: If you are interested in helping diverse low income community members to complete their income tax forms, consider volunteering with Pinecrest Queensway Community Health Centre. Their Free Income Tax Clinics operate on Saturdays, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 a.m., during March and April. There are also opportunities to support small groups of community members at their offsite locations, during day time hours. Training sessions provided by Revenue Canada and mentoring sessions by PQCHC. Do you have strong interpersonal skills, bookkeeping skills, and experience working with clients from diverse backgrounds. Ability to speak different languages (French, Arabic, Somali, Russian, Mandarin) is an asset. You’ll be required to complete and return an application form, attend a personal interview, submit 2 personal references, complete a Police Records Chec and participate in training and orientation session. Great Movies and snacks! The Ottawa Family Cinema is a volunteer-run movie theater showing films every weekend at a reasonable cost and donating proceeds back to the community. The large, fully equipped theater has new powerful Digital 3-D, Dolby Digital theater surround sound, a huge screen and comfortable seating. The friendly staff of volunteers create a great movie experience for everyone. Needed are a full complement of volunteers to staff the snack bar on Friday nights and Saturday afternoons. Responsible volunteers are needed to manage, help supervise operations, provide sales assistance and take inventory. Sales Assistants are needed to sell snacks, operate the popcorn and hot dog machines, make sales/give change and provide friendly customer service. Training and orientation will be provided. The right fit: Cornerstone/le Pillier offers shelter and supportive housing for women. They are in need of 2 volunteers to organize and coordinate the flow of donated clothing in their Clothing Room. This would require 2 volunteer visits per week. You’ll be sorting the donated clothing into sizes, styles and seasons as well as deciding which items are to be laundered or recycled. A year’s commitment and a Police Records check and references are needed. Training and support are provided. Planning Ahead: If you are 16 years of age or older, you can be a CN Cycle for CHEO volunteer on Sunday May 5, 2013 at the Canadian War Museum and help support the needs of children with cancer. Volunteers will get lunch, a CN Cycle volunteer t-shirt and entry into the exclusive volunteer prize draw. CN Cycle for CHEO

Cribbage, Anyone? Extendicare Medex is a long-term care facility in Ottawa’s west end to the 193 residents who live there. Volunteers do much to improve their quality of life. Do you like to play cribbage? If you do, there’s someone there who would love to join you—a ‘man’s man’ who loves to use colourful language, talk and smoke. Or, if you like taking bus trips and can push a wheelchair and provide assistance, they need volunteers to accompany residents on bus trips around Ottawa. You’ll get lunch on those days. Weekday/Weekend opportunity: The Western Ottawa Community Resource Centre is looking for assistance on Fridays and Saturdays at 2 MacNeil Court to assist with their adult day program, a recreational program for clients who are in the early stages of Alzheimer’s and other dementias. This popular program needs 4 volunteers each day, from 9 am to 3 pm, which allows for morning prep, a day with the clients, and afternoon debriefing. You’ll be helping the clients to enjoy various kinds of activities. You can choose from Are you a friendly person who wants to help people in Kanata?
