We are celebrating National Volunteer Week, by highlighting our member organizations who rely on volunteers to sustain their services and programs. Today we celebrate the Friends of the Ottawa Public Library Association, FOPLA.
Friends of the Ottawa Public Library Association has been around for some time. In fact, they were one of the first Friends of the Library groups in Canada, becoming a registered charity in 1981! Since then, FOPLA has grown to become the leading fundraising Friends organization in Canada and a great team to be a part of!
They consider themselves to be incredibly lucky to have a fantastic team of dedicated, passionate volunteers who want to give back to the libraries that they love.
Here is what some of their volunteers had to say:
“I love working with the other volunteers. We take pride in managing our community’s Friends store, and we get a boost when we see how much money we’ve raised for the library.”
“Why do I volunteer with the Friends? I wanted to volunteer somewhere for a few hours each week… and I love books!”
“I worked for the library for 25 years and I still want to give back.”
